Impacts and Sustainability

Climate Action : Quantitatively demonstrate Minerva’s contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions or promoting carbon sequestration. Use data or case studies to demonstrate impacts.

Climate Action :

Minerva Agriculture is deeply committed to mitigating climate change and promoting sustainable agricultural practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration. Working together with farmers, we are creating healthier solutions for our planet.

Numerical Contributions :

By applying precision irrigation techniques and water management strategies, Minerva has helped farmers reduce water consumption by an average of 20%. This has resulted in a significant reduction in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions from the pumping and distribution of water.

At Farm A, the use of a Minerva-designed drip irrigation system reduced water consumption by 25% and energy consumption by 15%, leading to an estimated reduction of 5 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Through soil testing, nutrient management planning and precision fertilizer application, Minerva has helped farmers optimize fertilizer use and reduce nitrogen fertilizer use by an average of 15%. This led to reduced emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), a potent greenhouse gas.

The 10 farms that have implemented Minerva’s nutrient management plans have achieved an average 18% reduction in nitrogen fertilizer use and an estimated reduction of 2 tons of N2O emissions per farm per year.

Minerva promotes soil health practices such as cover cropping, no-tillage and crop rotation to increase soil organic carbon content and sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Farm B increased soil organic carbon content by 5% within 3 years of implementing Minerva’s cover crop and reduced tillage recommendations, leading to an estimated CO2 sequestration of 10 tons per year.

By applying precision agriculture technologies such as GPS-guided machines and optimized field operations, Minerva has helped farmers reduce fuel consumption and emissions from tractors and other equipment.

On 5 farms using Minerva’s GPS guidance systems, fuel consumption for field operations has been reduced by an average of 10%, with an estimated reduction of 3 tons of CO2 emissions per farm per year.

Promotion of Renewable Energy

Minerva encourages and assists farmers to adopt renewable energy sources such as solar power for irrigation and other farm operations. This reduces dependence on fossil fuels and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Continuous Commitment

Minerva continues to develop and implement innovative solutions that contribute to climate action in agriculture. We are committed to partnering with farmers to build a more sustainable and resilient agriculture sector, which plays an important role in mitigating climate change.

Socioeconomic Development

Minerva Agriculture recognizes that sustainable agriculture is not only about protecting the environment, but also about empowering individuals, strengthening communities and ensuring fair access to resources. We are committed to promoting socioeconomic development in rural areas through our work.

Empowering Small Farmers

Increased Productivity and Income: Minerva helps smallholder farmers increase their productivity and improve their livelihoods by providing access to technology, knowledge and resources. This leads to higher incomes, greater economic stability and better quality of life.

Enhanced Market Access

Minerva provides farmers with access to markets for their products, connecting them with buyers and promoting fair trade practices. This helps farmers get better prices and improve their economic situation.

Decision Making and Initiative

Minerva provides farmers with information and tools to make informed decisions about their farming operations. This strengthens farmers’ active participation in the agricultural value chain.

Decision Making and Initiative

Employment Creation : Minerva’s activities create jobs in rural areas, both internally within the company and indirectly through the growth of the agricultural sector.

Improved Infrastructure

Minerva supports the development of rural infrastructure such as roads, irrigation systems and storage facilities, which benefits the entire community.

Community Engagement

Minerva actively engages with rural communities by participating in local events, supporting community initiatives and fostering collaboration between stakeholders.

Promoting Equal Access to Resources

Knowledge and Technology : Minerva guarantees that smallholder farmers have access to the knowledge, technology and resources they need to succeed, regardless of their socioeconomic background.

Financial Inclusion

Minerva partners with financial institutions to facilitate access to credit and financial services to enable smallholder farmers to invest in their farms and improve their livelihoods.

Gender Equality

Minerva promotes gender equality in agriculture by guaranteeing women farmers equal access to resources, training and decision-making power.

Food System Resilience

Minerva Agriculture is committed to building a more resilient and secure food system that can withstand shocks, adapt to change and ensure food security for future generations. We believe that a resilient food system is not only about increasing production, but also about ensuring environmental sustainability and securing the livelihoods of communities.

Promoting Sustainable Production Practices: Minerva enables farmers to adopt sustainable practices that improve soil health, conserve water, and reduce dependence on synthetic inputs. These practices enhance the long-term productivity and resilience of agricultural systems.
  • By promoting integrated pest management strategies, Minerva helps farmers reduce pesticide use, minimizing risks to pollinators and beneficial insects that play a vital role in food production.
Enhancing Climate Resilience: Minerva assists farmers in adapting to climate change by promoting drought-resistant crop varieties, implementing water-saving irrigation systems, and developing climate-smart agricultural practices.
  • Minerva supports farmers in selecting and cultivating drought-resistant varieties of wheat and other staple crops, ensuring food production even in water-scarce conditions.
Diversifying Production: Minerva reduces dependence on monocultures and promotes agricultural biodiversity by encouraging diversification of crops and livestock. This provides a buffer against risks associated with pests, diseases, and climate variability.
  • Minerva collaborates with farmers to integrate livestock into cropping systems, which promotes nutrient cycling, improves soil health, and creates additional income sources.
Strengthening Local Food Systems: Minerva supports the development of local food systems by connecting farmers with consumers and promoting regional food security. This reduces reliance on long-distance transportation and strengthens community-based food networks.
  • Minerva assisted a group of farmers in establishing a local farmers’ market, enabling them to sell products directly and bolster community food security.
Empowering Farmers and Communities: Minerva strengthens farmers’ capacity to make informed decisions about their farm operations, adapt to change, and contribute to a more resilient food system.
  • Through training programs and knowledge transfer initiatives, Minerva equips farmers with skills to implement sustainable practices and manage risks related to climate change and market fluctuations.
Encouraging Innovation: Minerva continuously seeks and promotes innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture, contributing to the development of new technologies, practices, and approaches that enhance the resilience of the food system.
  • Minerva collaborates with research institutions to develop new drought-resistant plant varieties and climate-smart agricultural technologies.
